Ames-based Olde Main Brewing Co. announces expansion as Iowa beer lovers respond

AMES, Iowa (Dec. 8, 2008) – Olde Main Brewing Co. announces a distribution expansion into Council Bluffs and Waterloo. Olde Main’s beer can now be found in bars, restaurants, and retail stores in Council Bluffs and the brewery will begin shipping to Waterloo this week. The four-year-old restaurant and brewpub has become the second largest brewery in Iowa and is the only Central Iowa brewery to bottle and distribute its beer.

The move into Council Bluffs and Waterloo comes just seven months after starting a bottling line and distributing to nearly 200 Central Iowa locations through Doll Distributing. Due to positive sales in Central Iowa, Doll has begun distributing Olde Main’s beers in its Council Bluffs territory.

In response to high request rates for Olde Main in the Waterloo area, shipments to Fahr Beverage Inc. in Waterloo begin this week and will soon be available at bars, restaurants, and retail stores across the Cedar Valley area.

In just four years, Olde Main’s growth has been substantial. Beer production has doubled every year and after launching the bottling line in May 2008 beer sales have grown 200 percent. Today, more than half of Olde Main’s beer sales come from outside the restaurant and brewpub.

“I never anticipated Olde Main growing at such a rapid pace. The addition of Council Bluffs and Waterloo are just the beginning of a lot more things to come,” says head brewer Jeff Irvin. “Next year we hope to expand distribution across the entire state. As things continue to grow, we’re already looking into building an off-site production facility to keep up with demand.”

Olde Main brews six styles of beer, along with a root beer and various seasonals throughout the year. Three varieties are currently offered in bottles – Dinkey Wheat, Long Face, and Off KILTer. Plans are in place to begin bottling additional styles early next year.
